Young adults were given the chance to gain some hands-on work experience with Liverpool’s rental e-scooter and e-bike operator, Voi.
Trainees from the Steps to Work programme at Strawberry Field, run by the Salvation Army, spent a morning at Voi’s warehouse in Liverpool, learning how to take apart decommissioned e-scooters and sort the parts for recycling.

The Steps to Work programme empowers young adults aged 18-25 with learning difficulties, who are neurodivergent or have barriers to employment into paid work.
Harry Foskin, Voi UK public policy manager, said: “Our team in Liverpool enjoyed sharing their expertise with the Steps to Work trainees, who quickly got stuck into the tasks they had been set to do.
“It was a great opportunity for Voi to do something more for Liverpool than simply providing our e-scooter and e-bike service.
“We are a company with community at our heart, so we were thrilled to be able to give young people in the city a helping hand with gaining employability skills. We’re looking forward to working further with other Step to Work trainees in the future.”
Chris Vernon, employment development co-ordinator, at Strawberry Field, said: “It’s a massive opportunity to come to an amazing place like Voi to get some skills and the trainees to get some hand-on experience working with the team.”
Voi started operating in Liverpool in October 2020. Since then more than 300,000 people have signed up to ride the company’s coral-coloured rental e-scooters and e-bikes, taking more than 6 million rides in total.
According to Voi’s externally-validated carbon calculator, trips on the company’s e-scooters and e-bikes in Liverpool have replaced an estimated 2.6 million short car journeys.
