Andhra Pradesh has made significant strides under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), showcasing its commitment to strengthening governance at the grassroot level and empowering rural communities.
Between August and November 2024, the State achieved remarkable progress in capacity-building, infrastructure development, and inclusive governance, reflecting a well-structured and strategic approach towards strengthening panchayats and rural empowerment, an official statement issued on Wednesday said.
Notably, the State’s ranking in RGSA improved from 24th in June 2024 to 4th place in November 2024, thanks to the proactive leadership and effective implementation of the programme deliverables.
The RGSA is a centrally-sponsored scheme with a funding support of 60:40 of Central and State shares, and it was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24, 2018.
As part of the RGSA Annual Action Plan for 2024-25, Andhra Pradesh had set an ambitious target of conducting three-lakh training sessions for elected representatives and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) functionaries.
By November, 1.36 lakh of these sessions were completed, with another 1.04 lakh planned for December, with focus on Localised Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To support this, the Andhra Pradesh State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (APSIRDPR) received funds to the tune of ₹22 crore in two tranches for achieving these training targets.
A key administrative reform was the reintegration of APSIRDPR under the Department of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, moving it from the GVWV & VSWS Department.
During a recent visit to New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan made an appeal for a fund of ₹20 crore for construction of a permanent APSIRDPR building in Amaravati.
