Women-led development is a comprehensive vision that transforms women’s empowerment into a concrete reality, playing a crucial role in achieving sustainable development goals, said Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, during the convocation held at Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women in Coimbatore on Sunday.

The Minister emphasised that empowering women is not only essential for their personal growth but also for the betterment of society at large. “Women have an innate sense of patience and compassion, qualities that make them powerful leaders in tackling pressing global issues such as malnutrition, illiteracy, gender inequality, economic development, and climate challenges,” she said.

She called on the students to play an active role in addressing these issues, stating, “Your active participation is essential to making India a developed nation by 2047. Women are uniquely equipped with sensitivity, adaptability, and a deep sense of compassion—traits that can foster positive change and lead to a healthier, safer planet.”

The Minister encouraged the students to embrace leadership with empathy and courage. “The world is eager to be led by women who are disciplined, empathetic, and unwavering in their values,” she said.

A total of 2,472 candidates received their degrees, including 91 medal winners, 33 Ph.D. scholars, one M.Phil. scholar, 624 postgraduates, and 1,814 undergraduates from various disciplines.
