Research grant for Centre for Neuroscience at Cusat

The Centre for Neuroscience at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has secured a research grant of ₹88 lakh from the Department of Health Research, Government of India, for a project on the effects of oxygen toxicity (hyperoxia) on neuronal damage in extremely premature babies.

The research will focus on the lung-brain axis in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and will be led by Dr. Tara Sudhadevi, who recently joined the varsity from Case Western Reserve University, United States, and Baby Chakrapani, Director of the Centre for Neuroscience, Department of Biotechnology, according to a release.

The study aims to enhance the understanding of how oxygen toxicity affects premature infants, particularly its impact on lung and brain damage. It will also explore novel therapeutic interventions to improve neonatal care, it said.
