Events

The Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), under the Ministry of Tourism’s Hunar Se Rozgar Tak (HSRT) programme, conducted online placement drives in partnership with Primero Skills across six districts in Manipur. Over 160 students secured employment with organisations such as PVR Inox, Barbeque Nation, Quess Corporation, and Compass Group.

Whistling Woods International (WWI) hosted a round-table conference on the future of the media and entertainment industry. Participants included Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and others from FICCI, NFDC, and CII.

Prayoga Institute of Education Research and The Sports School collaborated to unveil Krīḍā, a programme for students from Classes 5–10, based on the NCERT syllabus, Krīḍā combines correlates core scientific and mathematics concepts with practical applications in sports and games.

The Centre for Integrative Medical Research (CIMR) of Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) has organised IMS-2024, a two-day national Conference on Integrative Medical Sciences. Dr. K. Narayanasamy, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, inaugurated the conference. Dr. G. Sivaraman, Managing Director, Arogya Healthcare gave the valedictory address. Over 450 people participated.

Transforming Education: Shaping India’s Future was the theme of the eighth CII National School Education Summit, which brought together thought leaders, policymakers, and educators and also showcased ed-tech innovations and solutions. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education, spoke at the event.

Students of Class 10 students from Shiv Nadar School Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad showcased some cutting-edge technical prototypes solving real-life concerns at Colloquium 2024. Shivansh Sharda, Aadish Garg, Armaan Sadh, and Omar Ahmad from Shiv Nadar School, Noida, won the first prize and an academic excursion to CERN for STEPWise, an innovative indoor navigation system that enables blind individuals to confidently and independently navigate unfamiliar spaces with safety and ease.

A.M. Jain College, Chennai, hosted a Joy of Giving event in the memory of M. Sardarmal Chordia, the former secretary of the college. Forty children from Annaikum Karangal, a child care home were given stationery kits, school bags, lunch bags, tiffin boxes and water bottles. The staff and students also contributed provisions and essential supplies for the home.

IIM-Nagpur hosted the two-day IIM Nagpur-Ivey Case Conference 2024 on the theme Shaping the Future: Business Management Trends and Insights for Tomorrow. Conducted in hybrid mode, it brought together participants from institutions such as Griffith University, NUS Singapore, UTAS-Ibri, the University of Eastern Finland, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore, IIT-Kanpur, NIT-Jamshedpur, and XLRI Jamshedpur.

The Office of Faculty Development and Welfare, MIT Manipal, organised a Guest Talk titled AI and the Future of Humanity by Dr. Makarand R. Paranjape, Director of Education, Access Health Care Physicians, LLC, the U.S. The faculty members and research scholars who participated engaged with the speaker though a Q&A session.

IIIT-Delhi hosted BuildSEC’24, a two-day cybersecurity and privacy conference that brought together leading academics, industry experts, and policymakers to address critical issues in safeguarding our increasingly digital society. Prof. Atul Prakash from the University of Michigan, the U.S., gave the keynote address.

Noida International Institute of Medical Sciences (NIIMS) collaborated with Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, Kaushambi, to conduct the 19th edition of the Spine and Interventional Pain Management Workshop. The event was led by pain specialist Dr. Neeraj Jain.

IIT-Kanpur recorded1109 offers at the end of the Phase 1 of the 2024-25 placement session, of which 28 were international offers. This reflects a 27% increase from the previous year. Companies that participated included BPCL, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, Qualcomm, Intel, Texas Instruments, Meesho, Shiprocket, Reliance, Meril Life, Deutsche Bank, ICICI Bank, American Express, SLB, Micron, Cars24, and FedEx, among others.

KIIT College of Engineering, Gurugram, organised an event to commemorate World Meditation Day and to highlight its importance and positive impact on life.

AI unicorn Krutrim announced free cloud credits for students and faculty members across all IITs. As a part of the initiative, all eligible students and faculty will receive a one-time credit worth ₹10,000 that can be utilised over a period of 12 months the cloud platform.

Target Publications organised its second Sampark Initiative, bringing together over 50 school principals and senior educationists from Chiplun, Ratnagiri, to discuss the future of education and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The session was led by Dr. Hema Bhadawkar, Associate Professor at KJ Somaiya School of Education and NEP Coordinator for Somaiya Vidyavihar University.

Researchers from the University of Southampton, the U.K., and the National Institute of Technology in Rourkela, India, have published a study on the impact of open-cast mining in the coal mining region of Jharsuguda in Eastern India and concluded that Dust from mining suffocates surrounding forests and inhibits trees’ ability to capture carbon from the atmosphere more than previously thought. DigiNerve has updated its programmes to provide comprehensive preparation for the MD Paediatrics and NEET-SS exams. The programme has incorporated insights from over 200 medical experts and offers students the tools to succeed in their super-speciality pursuits.

Researchers from IIM-Lucknow led by Prof. Arunabha Mukhopadhyay, Information Technology and Systems department, have developed a new framework to guide organisations in India’s capital markets and banking sectors in adopting Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technologies. A paper co-authored by Prof. Arunabha Mukhopadhyay, Prof. Swati Jain from IIM-Amritsar, and Shubhendu Dutta, PhD candidate, IIM-Kashipur was published in the Journal of Organisational Computing and Electronic Commerce.

Surabh English School hosted a Fun Fiesta on the theme Green and Clean Environment. Students, parents, teachers and the local community participated. Highlights included plants stall, fun games, art gallery and food counters run by students.

Delhi Public School, R.N. Extension, hosted CareerQuest 2024 tp help students make informed career choices. Representatives from institutions such as Central University Queensland and Monash University, Australia; Laurier University, Canada; Stony Brook University, the U.S.; Chandigarh University, Ashoka University, Plaksha University, Chitkara University, FLAME University, and the Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD), India; participated. Panel discussions and workshops allowed students to interact with university representatives.

Crack Academy hosted a Sarkari Naukri Mela that aimed to help aspirants to various government exams with exam-specific strategies and insights. It also collaborated with Andhra Pradesh Government’s Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) to conduct a mega scholarship test for over 25,000 students across 200+ schools and colleges. The top 100 students will be provided scholarships access to premium courses.

Jain International Residential School (JIRS) celebrated its 25th Annual Day, AFFLATUS 2024, with a range of events such as science exhibition, drone zone, entrepreneurship programmes, art exhibitions, fashion show and more.

IIT-Roorkee hosted the Think India National Convention 2024, which brought together over 300 participants from the IISc, NITs, IIMs and NLUs. The theme for the three-day event was Bharat 4.0. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated the programme virtually.

Ten students from IIAD participated in the Serendipity Arts Festival, Goa, with their collection Touched, which had 45 immersive artworks designed or the visually impaired to experience art through touch.

The second edition of Blix-A-Thon, organised by Blix in collaboration with IIT-Bombay Techfest 2024, showcased the talent and creativity of young robotics enthusiasts. The three-day event had 1,000 participants from across the country.

Ayaan, Abhinav, and Pritam, second-year students of the UG Programme in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Scaler School of Technology (SST), have created Scaler Companion, an advanced generative AI tool that has been integrated into Scaler’s upskilling and UG education offerings. This AI companion suite provides learners with tailored interview preparation, real-time support, and effective study aids.

JS Institute of Design (JSID) was the knowledge partner at the Summit of School Principals: Maximising Educational Leadership Competencies, organised by the Institute of Counsellor Training Research and Consultancy (ICTRC). It brought together 80+ school principals, headmistresses, and teachers across Delhi NCR to highlight the importance of design education and its potential to launch fulfilling careers.

Aequs Foundation hosted the Hubballi edition of Avishkar 2024-25, its annual Science Fair and Model Making Competition, which featured 31 innovative science models created by 62 students from 31 schools. A Science Quiz Competition for students was also held.

The Aditya School of Business Management (ASBM) and Aditya Institute of Management Studies and Research (AIMSR) hosted an industry meet to bring together industry leaders, scholars, and academics to bridge the gap between evolving industry requirements and academic curricula.

Delhi Public School, Hinjawadi, celebrated its Annual Day on the theme Rashtra Devo Bhava: Nation First showcasing India’s heritage. Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Commissioner of Police, Pimpri Chinchwad, and Namrata Majhail, Director of The Orchid School, were the guests.

The VIBGYOR Group of Schools hosted the 16th edition of Viva, its inter-school cultural event, which brought together over 100,000 students from over 3000 schools from across the country. Themed The Ivy Year, the programme featured competitions, creative activities, workshops and sports events.

Awards

The fifth edition of SmartIDEAthon 2024, organised by GITAM’s Venture Development Centre (VDC), brought together over 4,000 participants who showcased practical solutions to real-world challenges. Team NAVMARG, from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Karnataka, was the overall winner for their project on solving water quality challenges in India.

Team Pact comprising Bhaavan Prabhakar, Ashwin Jose Thomas, Celia Rose Thomas, Christopher Mark D’Souza, G.L.K. Abhiram Reddy, and Abhay Margabandhu, students of Computer Science Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering at CMR Institute of Technology, won the Student Innovation category at the Smart India Hackathon 2024. Their project was an AI-powered application to simplify End User License Agreements and Terms and Conditions into user-friendly summaries.

Team Manthan 1, comprising students from Master of Management Studies (MMS) course at MET Institute of Management (MET IOM), Mumbai, won the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024. The team tackled a problem statement from the Ministry of Law and Justice and presented a solution that simplified and gamified the learning process for key aspects of the Indian Constitution.

Youva Stationery, a brand of Navneet Education Limited, hosted Youva Robo Sumo, a competition for school students in Mumbai to design and build their own robots. Participating schools included St. Wilfred’s School (Mira Road), Dosti Foundation High School, Gokuldham High School, Parle Tilak Vidyalay School ICSE, St Wilfred- Ulwe, GD Somani, Lakshadham High School, Gurdians School ICSE, Kapol Vidyanidhi International School, St Agnes High School among others. Sanjeevani World School (Dahisar) won the championship with GD Somani School (Churchgate) as the first runner-up, and St. Agnes School as the second runner-up.

Sukanta Parida, director of admissions and marketing at Centurion University, Odisha, was judged the Most Innovate Marketing Strategist in the Indian education industry at the Connect 4.0 summit. He was conferred the awarded at the Collegedunia Excellence Awards 2024.

Next Education organised the TriQuest Challenge 2024, which involved students taking part in Robotics, Mathematics, and English competitions. Aahan Ratna, Aryan Jai Prakash, Asmit Pandey, and Ananya Sahani from Sunbeam International School, Babatpur, Varanasi came first in the Tech Pioneers Sorting Arena Challenge. Advik Patel, Sammeksha Patel, Kunwar Shivansh Singh, and Atharva Srijay from Brainseed International School, Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, emerged victorious in the Brainy Calculators Maths Contest. In the Soccer Challenge, Devansh, Aarohi, Arishtha, and Sanchet from Royal Concorde School, Raichur, Karnataka, secured the first position.
