Hero Group commissions solar project in Chitradurga

Hero Future Energies (HFE), the renewable energy arm of the Hero Group, on Saturday announced the commissioning of its 29 MWp solar project in Chitradurga.

This open-access site, meant to cater to the power needs of the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector, reinforced the company’s commitment to driving India’s transition to clean energy and empowering businesses with sustainable energy solutions, it said.

The solar project is expected to generate 33 million units of green energy annually that would lead to a CO₂ reduction of 31,624 tonne, contributing directly to India’s clean energy and climate action goals. It would also add to the country’s aim to reach 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, the company claimed.

The power generated from this plant will be supplied to leading corporations in the region including BASF India Ltd., KEMS Forging Ltd, VRKP Sponge and Power Plant and Aurigene Oncology Ltd., with whom HFE has already signed Power Purchase Agreements for this purpose.

Srivatsan Iyer, Global CEO, Hero Future Energies, said: “This project is yet another milestone open access initiative that expands our footprint in Karnataka and demonstrates our commitment towards industrial decarbonisation. Through this, we aim to empower businesses and communities, and act as an end-to-end partner for our C&I clients in their net zero journeys.”

HFE recently also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Karnataka. Valued at ₹11,000 crore, the MoU outlines extensive investments in renewable energy and green hydrogen projects across the State, further bolstering Karnataka’s position as a leader in clean energy. This strategic partnership highlights HFE’s dedication to fostering regional economic growth, creating jobs, and advancing India’s green energy ambitions.
