
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot addressed the gathering at the 9th convocation of Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at Iruvakki in Sagar taluk on Wednesday.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has stressed the need for adopting new technologies in agriculture, smart farming practices, besides opting for organic farming to address global challenges.
Mr. Gehlot, addressing the gathering on the occasion of ninth annual convocation of the Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at Iruvakki in Sagar taluk on Wednesday, said that the fresh graduates in the field of agriculture and horticulture should work towards finding solutions to the challenges faced by the farmers.
“In this era of innovation and technological advancements, agriculture and horticulture require solutions driven by creativity, technical expertise and hard work. Your role as agriculture students is pivotal in ensuring food security, combating climate change and safeguarding humanity’s future,” he told students.
He also highlighted the importance of sustainable development in agriculture, stating that agriculture was not merely a subject of study, but backbone of the nation. “Your knowledge and contributions are vital to build an eco-conscious society,” he added.
The governor presented honorary doctorate to former Minister and senior politician Kagodu Thimmappa. This was the second honorary doctorate he received on the day. Earlier in the day Kuvempu University conferred honorary doctorate on him.
L.S. Shashidhara, the director of National Centre for Biological Sciences, delivered convocation address. University Vice-Chancellor R.C. Jagadeesha and others were present.
