Speakers at the international conference on ‘Global advances in microbial technology and bioengineering: Driving innovations in health, agriculture and environmental sustainability’ dwelt at length on the need to encourage and implement groundbreaking innovations to address issues such as food security and environmental conservation.
The two-day event is organised by Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam’s (SPMVV) Department of Applied Microbiology, in association with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan’s Jeli Campus, Malaysia.
In his keynote address, M.H.D. Ikhwanuddin Abdullah, Director at Terengganu, Malaysia, spoke on advancements in ‘Crustacean Aquaculture’, where he highlighted the emerging concept that is believed to have the potential to revolutionise sustainable food production. “This, in one go, can address global challenges such as food security and environmental preservation”, he said.
SPMVV Vice-Chancellor V. Uma and Dean (School of Sciences) T. Sudha stressed the need to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in order to address the challenges plaguing the world.
Twenty of the 100 delegates at the event are from international destinations like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, United States of America, South Korea, Germany, United Kingdom, China and Quito-Sangolqui in Ecuador, who will present their research findings, covering a wide spectrum of topics pertaining to health, agriculture and environmental sustainability.
