The award ceremony for the State-level Kalai Thiruvizha 2024-25 was held at the Anna Centenary Library on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin presented the awards to the winning students.
“Generally, it is the elders who educate students, but today, students are educating the elders about environmental issues,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said. On the occasion, students from various government and government-aided schools performed songs, folk dances, and plays with the message of environmental conservation as a shared responsibility. Students covered themes including climate change, stopping plastic use, effects of pesticides, and land pollution.
The Deputy Chief Minister added that around 46 lakh students from schools across the State participated in the arts and cultural festival this year, with 13,000 took part in the State-level competitions. Over the past three years, only students from Classes VI to XII participated, but this year, those from Classes I to V also took part in the event, he added. Furthermore, as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, he had requested schools to only use PT periods for physical education, adding that only when students play well will they also study well.
Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi praised the students for their successful performances and congratulated all the students who participated. Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu, Mayor R. Priya, and School Education Secretary S. Madhumathi were present.
