Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta on Friday, January 3, urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to sanction an office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Mangaluru, among other demands.
Paying a courtesy visit to the Home Minister in New Delhi, Capt. Chowta also urged Mr. Shah to strengthen the banking and fisheries infrastructure in the region. Improving the Railway and road connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru was also an urgent need, the MP said in his letter.
He said the initiatives if addressed, would significantly contribute to the region’s security, economic prosperity and sustainable development.
Capt. Chowta said, “It is a wonderful start to 2025 to have had an opportunity to meet our Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah today. Have drawn his attention to various issues of our region including the completion of the Coast Guard Academy, Fisheries and Cooperatives as well as sought his guidance to work for the party, State and our people in the coming days.”
He also presented Mr. Shah a large photo frame of Tulunad’s popular buffalo bull race, Kambala.

In a statement, the MP said he impressed upon the Defence Minister the need to open a Sainik School in Dakshina Kannada. Expressing concern over National and coastal security, the MP urged Mr. Singh to establish a military unit in the region.
