Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday inaugurated the PM Surya Ghar Solar Pilot Project at Nadimuru village of Kuppam constituency, highlighting his vision for renewable energy and sustainable development. “The initiative focusses on solar and wind energy as key solutions to reduce financial burden on households and promote clean energy usage,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu stressed the importance of renewable energy in reducing dependency on conventional electricity. He stated that the project enables households to generate 200 units of electricity per month, out of which 60 units can be used for personal consumption, while 140 units can be supplied to the power grid. This model offers dual benefits, providing households with free electricity worth ₹4,000 annually and an additional income of ₹5,000 from the grid contributions. “With this initiative, there will be no burden of paying electricity bills in the future,” he said.
Mr. Naidu expressed his vision of transforming Kuppam into a model constituency known for zero emissions and sustainable practices. He lauded the efforts of the IIT Kanpur team, which is collaborating to achieve this goal. The Chief Minister urged the public to address environmental issues, including pollution caused by fertilizers, pesticides and littering, which he said contributing to rising health problems.
The Chief Minister called for a cultural shift towards cleaner and greener practices, including tree plantation drives, efficient use of rainwater, water recycling, and converting waste into useful resources like fertilizers and electricity. Mr. Naidu stressed that promoting natural farming methods would not only protect the environment but also increase the market value of agricultural produce.
Handri-Neeva project
He announced the nearing completion of the Handri-Neeva project, which aims to provide irrigation water to the region by June. Mr. Naidu encouraged efficient use of rainwater and storage to ensure water security for farming and household purposes.
Recalling his earlier developmental initiatives, such as Janmabhoomi and Shramadanam, Mr. Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to economically uplifting the underprivileged. He highlighted the need for collective efforts to adopt eco-friendly practices for long-term benefits.
