The Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) NIFT-TEA Incubation Centre in Tiruppur, which has been identified by the Central and State governments for fostering startups with mentorship support, has accorded a push for broad-basing investments in technical textiles.
Aligned to the incubation centre’s activities to bring about growth in the textile and apparel industry, startups recently showcased a range of eco-friendly innovations, including salt-free dyeing technologies, natural dyeing methods, packaging materials made from fabric waste, and natural, biodegradable sanitary napkins for women.
One standout innovation highlighted cutting-edge method for separating and reusing salt and chemicals from textile dyeing wastewater.
According to faculty of NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, the incubation centre, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced machinery, cutting-edge laboratories, and access to a global network of experts, has become a hub for innovation and excellence. The AIC NIFT-TEA has made strides in textile technologies, improving production processes, and enhancing supply chain management, the faculty added.
During a discussion with the start-ups on that occasion, Director of Textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu, R. Lalitha, assured support to bring it into full-scale implementation. Ms. Lalitha envisaged a crucial role for the incubation centre in disseminating Central and State government schemes for technical textiles and encouraged leveraging State research funding to foster new discoveries.
The list of technical textiles has been enlarged to encompass geo-textiles, agro-textiles, medical/hygiene textiles, defence textile, mobile textiles (for automobiles), sports textiles, protective textiles, building/construction textiles, and speciality fibres and composites, the startups were told.
Highlighting the significance of technical textiles, P. Jaiprakash, Mentor, StartUp India, large-scale manufacturers of these products stand to gain substantially from the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme of the Central Government, to the extent of 15 percent of the turnover.
A Tiruppur-based company Techno Sport Wear India Pvt Ltd. is among 53 companies across the country that are availing themselves of the utility of PLI scheme, he said.
