Media and communication expert from Toronto, Canada, Geeta Nagaraju inaugurated a Women’s Media Club at the Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University in Vijayapura recently.
She said that such clubs should not just be restricted to academic activities in colleges and activities but they should also contribute to the development of society.
“Women’s Media Club should help women realize their potential to live independently and face challenges successfully in society. Women should develop self-confidence through training, workshops and awareness programmes. They should be inspired to work as leaders of their families and communities,” she said.
Chairman of B.V. Nag Communications, Canada, B.V. Nagaraju, who is also editor of India Observer newspaper, said that the club can contribute towards inspiring women to be great journalists and also to create awareness about violence, cleanliness campaigns, environmental protection, among other such issues.
Head of the Department of Journalism Omkar Kakade urged students to follow the ideals of role models in their lives, adopt modern ideologies and try to surpass their own achievements regularly.
“Every student should try to understand the world around them in all its dimensions. It is essential to acquire knowledge in different subjects rather than being limited to just one subject,” he said.
Assistant professors Tahmina Kolar and Sandeep Nayak, teaching and non-teaching staff, research students, undergraduate and postgraduate students and others were present.
