Proposal to set up International Centre for Automative Technology’s third centre in Bengaluru: HDK

The Manesar-based International Centre for Automative Technology is proposing setting up its third centre in Bengaluru, aiming to make the city a global hub for advanced automotive and EV technologies, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Monday.

“Bengaluru is the nucleus of India’s technological innovation. By proposing a ICAT Centre here, we aim to drive advancements in electric vehicles, autonomous systems and next generation automative solutions,” the Union Minister said in a note issued from Manesar.

He said that this initiative, part of Atmanirbhar Bharat, will not only boost the automative sector but also catalyse developments in Defence, Railways, and sustainable technologies.

The note said that the envisioned ICAT-III facility will feature advanced electric vehicle development and calibration labs, ECU design and sensor development capabilities, cyber security labs and advanced driver assistance systems research, connected and autonomous vehicle technologies, software testing and development for software defined vehicles and a national automotive data repository to serve as India’s central automative back end infrastructure.

It said that Mr. Kumaraswamy’s initiative signals the government’s commitment to make Bengaluru the focal point for next generation automative advancement. “Talks are underway and with Minister’s assurance, the proposed centre is expecting to take shape.”
