The Kerala government will extend the carrying capacity studies to more destinations to promote eco-friendly and sustainable tourism practices that protect Kerala’s natural beauty, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said during the policy address at the Assembly here on Friday.
The government is also committed to positioning Kerala as a premier global destination by operationalising the Heli Tourism Policy approved in 2024, creating new avenues for aerial tourism. Additionally, a Cruise Tourism Policy will be introduced to establish Kerala as a key player in the cruise sector.
In alignment with sustainable development goals, the government will intensify efforts to promote Responsible Tourism practices across the State. The climate-resilient elements of the Design Policy adopted in 2024 will be integrated wherever feasible, ensuring that tourism development aligns with environmental preservation, he said.
Under the Malinya Muktha Keralam initiative, the State government will prioritise waste management and cleanliness at tourist destinations in collaboration with local self-government institutions, NGOs, and tourism clubs. The establishment of Destination Clubs will foster public awareness and deeper engagement with Kerala’s cultural and natural attractions, he said.
To enhance visitor experiences, thrust will be given to developing tourism infrastructure and launching mega entertainment projects through public-private partnerships. Leveraging technology, innovative tourism products will be introduced, making Kerala a model for sustainable and tech-driven tourism that balances growth with environmental stewardship, the Governor said.
