The renovated mangrove park, located at the net mending yard of Matsyafed at Malippuram, Vypeen, was inaugurated on Wednesday by MLA K.N. Unnikrishnan.

The MLA said the project would revitalise the local heritage, which had been dormant for years. He emphasised the park’s dual role in supporting fish breeding and acting as a major tourist attraction, thereby boosting both environmental conservation and local livelihoods.

The park’s revival was made possible through a collaboration between Matsyafed and Apollo Tyres, which funded the project under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The inaugural function was presided over by Elangunnapuzha panchayat president Rasikala Priyaraj. Apollo Tyres CSR head Rinika Grover unveiled the official mascot of the mangrove park and emphasised the crucial role of community involvement in ensuring the success of the project.

Matsyafed board member P.B. Francis released a species board showcasing the diverse mangrove varieties in the park. Board member Lata Unniraj distributed mangrove saplings to children, while forest conservator Indu Vijayan spoke about the importance of environmental conservation through mangrove planting.
